Why we recommend outdoor photography at selected times of the day.
Christmas eve we were commissioned by a family from Massachusets. A family of 20 was celebrating their father (80th birthday) who fought in the Vietnam war as a helipcoter pilot. It's not an easy task getting everyone together at one time. Who knows when everyone will be together again?
Preplanning a family portrait session is a BIG part of a successful portrait. Clothing, hair, makeup, time of day, etc. We have found the best time for our on location portrait sessions is in the early morning. just before sunrise for the very best light. Who wants to get up early while on vacation? Clients who put a priority on "Family"! This family scheduled at 7am then changed to 9am. I shared my concerns about the hard sunlight at 9am. I could not be held responsibalbe for squinty eyes, hard shaddow or poor reproduction. Fortunatley, most of the family members saw the benefits and changed their mind and went back to the 7am start time.
See the example of the 7am family portrait vs the 8:30am family portrait. As we were packing up I saw the family competing agains the hard sunlight. I took an image with my phone with family trying to black the sunlight with the lounge chairs pads. What an incrediable family legacy! We are delighted to preserve their family heritage and they listened to our recommendations. Thank you Nyguen family.
Wishing you all a Happy Healthy New Year!
